The project will help enhance independence and security of the energy sector in the country. The installed capacity of the power plant is 12 MW, which means about 35 million kWh additional production of electricity per year. According to 2019 data, the electricity generated by the hydro power plant will be equivalent to ~ 3.4% of the country’s average annual import.
In general, the development of new hydropower resources in the country is critically important for the enhancement of many sectors of the country, including the economy, and therefore for the welfare of the population.
The implementation of the project will help attract foreign direct investment in the country, create new jobs and mobilize additional funds in the state budget. With this project, the investment of about $12 million is planned to be made in the renewable energy sector. In addition, indirect positive impacts should be considered, in the form of promoting economic growth and positive impacts on the environment.
In terms of sustainability, flowing hydroelectric power plants are one of the cleanest renewable energy sources. This has a positive impact on the right economic development of the country and the health of the society.
The project will help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals including: elimination of poverty, provision of accessible and clean energy, economic growth and decent jobs. At the construction and operation stages, the project will employ mostly local population that will help improve the economic and social environment in the region.
